Knee Contusion

A knee contusion is a bruise from direct trauma to the knee. Most heal within 1–2 weeks with conservative care.

Symptoms

  • Pain at injury site
  • Swelling and bruising
  • Stiffness
  • Tenderness to touch

Treatment

  • RICE — rest, ice, compression, elevation
  • NSAIDs
  • Gradual return to activity

When to See a Doctor

  • Unable to bear weight
  • Severe pain or visible deformity
  • Joint locking or giving way
  • Persistent symptoms after 2 weeks
