Limited Range of Motion

Limited range of motion is reduced ability to move a joint through its normal arc. Causes include joint problems, muscle problems, scarring, and neurologic disorders.

  • Injury (sprain, fracture, dislocation)
  • Arthritis
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Contractures
  • Muscle spasm or strain
  • Surgical scarring
  • Neurologic disorders

Treatment

  • Treat underlying cause
  • Physical therapy and stretching
  • Heat/cold
  • Pain management
  • Sometimes surgery
