Symptoms
- Anemia of variable severity
- Jaundice
- Enlarged spleen
- Gallstones (from bilirubin)
- Aplastic crises with viral infections
Treatment
- Folic acid supplementation
- Splenectomy for severe disease (curative for anemia)
- Vaccinations and prophylactic antibiotics if spleen removed
- Cholecystectomy if gallstones develop
