Mouth Sores
Mouth sores include any ulcer or lesion in or around the mouth. Most are from minor trauma or viral infections, but persistent or atypical sores need evaluation.

- Hand-foot-and-mouth disease
- Trauma from biting, sharp food, dental work
- Burns from hot food
- Drug reactions
- Oral cancer (uncommon but important)
When to See a Doctor
- Sores lasting more than 2 weeks
- Unusual size, color, or location
- Multiple recurrences
- Severe pain, difficulty eating, or systemic symptoms
