Temporal Bone Fracture

Temporal bone fractures involve the bones forming part of the skull base near the ears. They can damage hearing, the facial nerve, and risk meningitis from CSF leak.

Treatment

  • Emergency neurosurgical and ENT evaluation
  • Most CSF leaks resolve with conservative management
  • Steroids for facial nerve injury
  • Audiology testing and management of hearing loss
  • Watch for meningitis
