Causes

  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Uterine fibroids and polyps
  • Adenomyosis
  • Bleeding disorders
  • Thyroid disorders
  • IUD (copper)
  • Endometrial hyperplasia or cancer (postmenopausal bleeding)
  • Medications (anticoagulants)

Treatment

  • NSAIDs and tranexamic acid during periods
  • Hormonal birth control
  • Hormonal IUD
  • Treatment of underlying cause
  • Endometrial ablation
  • Hysterectomy (definitive)
  • Iron supplementation for anemia
