Yellow Fever
Yellow fever is a viral hemorrhagic fever transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes in parts of Africa and South America. Severe disease causes jaundice, bleeding, and shock. A highly effective vaccine exists.

Symptoms
Mild form (most cases)

Severe form
- Brief recovery followed by jaundice (yellow skin)
- Severe liver and kidney problems
- Bleeding from gums, nose, GI tract
- Shock and multi-organ failure
Treatment
- No specific antiviral — supportive care
- Fluids, oxygen, blood products as needed
- ICU care for severe cases
Prevention
- Single-dose vaccine providing lifelong protection
- Required for travel to many endemic countries
- Mosquito avoidance measures
