Oral Candidiasis (Thrush)
Oral candidiasis (thrush) is a fungal infection of the mouth caused by Candida species. It is common in infants, denture wearers, immunosuppressed people, and those on antibiotics or inhaled steroids.

Appearance
- White creamy patches on tongue, cheeks, or palate
- Patches that wipe off, leaving red sore areas
- Soreness, burning, or trouble swallowing
- Loss of taste
Treatment
- Nystatin or clotrimazole troches
- Fluconazole orally for resistant or extensive disease
- Treat underlying cause (rinse mouth after inhaled steroids; check for diabetes; address denture fit)
