Measles
Measles is a highly contagious viral infection causing fever, rash, and respiratory symptoms. It can cause serious complications including pneumonia and encephalitis. The MMR vaccine is highly effective.

Symptoms
- High fever (often >103°F)
- Cough, runny nose, red watery eyes (3 C's)
- Tiny white spots in the mouth (Koplik spots) — pathognomonic
- Red blotchy rash starting on the face, spreading down
Complications
- Pneumonia (leading cause of measles death)
- Encephalitis
- Diarrhea and dehydration
- Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (rare, years later)
- Severe consequences in pregnancy and immunocompromised
Prevention
- MMR vaccine — 2 doses, ~97% effective
- Isolation of infected individuals
- Post-exposure vaccination or immunoglobulin in some cases
