Erysipelas
Erysipelas is a bacterial skin infection of the upper layers, typically caused by Group A Streptococcus. It features a sharply demarcated, raised red rash and may have systemic symptoms.

Distinguishing Features
- Bright red, well-demarcated, raised rash with a clear border
- Most often on the legs or face
- Often preceded by fever and chills
- Tender, warm, swollen skin
Cellulitis, by contrast, has poorly defined borders and is deeper.
Treatment
- Oral antibiotics (penicillin or amoxicillin) for most cases
- IV antibiotics for severe disease or facial involvement
- Elevation, rest
- Anti-inflammatory medications
- Treat predisposing factors (lymphedema, skin breaks)
