Cervical Polyps

Cervical polyps are usually benign growths protruding from the cervix into the vagina. They may cause bleeding, especially after intercourse, but most are easily removed.

Symptoms

  • Often no symptoms
  • Bleeding between periods or after intercourse
  • Heavier periods
  • Watery or bloody discharge
  • Postmenopausal bleeding

Treatment

  • Office removal (twisting off with forceps) — quick and usually painless
  • Send for pathologic examination
