Itchy Ears
Itchy ears are usually caused by skin conditions, allergies, or mild infections. Most cases resolve with simple measures, but persistent itching with discharge or hearing changes may need evaluation.

Causes
- Dry skin or eczema in the ear canal
- Seborrheic dermatitis
- Allergic contact dermatitis (earrings, hearing aids)
- Outer ear infection (swimmer's ear)
- Earwax buildup
- Hearing aid or earplug irritation
Self-Care
- Don't insert cotton swabs or other objects into the ear canal
- Keep ears dry
- A few drops of mineral oil or olive oil can soothe dryness
- Treat dandruff/seborrheic dermatitis if present
- Avoid scratching

- Pain, discharge, or hearing loss
- Persistent itching not responding to self-care
- Itching after water exposure
