Causes

  • Liver or kidney disease
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding (increased needs)
  • Acrodermatitis enteropathica (inherited)

Treatment

  • Oral zinc supplementation
  • Dietary sources: meat, shellfish, legumes, nuts, seeds, whole grains
  • Address underlying cause
