Waldenström Macroglobulinemia

Waldenström macroglobulinemia is a rare slow-growing type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma in which abnormal cells produce excessive amounts of IgM antibody. The condition can cause hyperviscosity, anemia, and neuropathy.

  • Weight loss, night sweats

Diagnosis

  • Blood tests showing high IgM
  • Bone marrow biopsy
  • MYD88 mutation testing
  • Imaging

Treatment

  • Watch and wait for asymptomatic patients
  • BTK inhibitors (ibrutinib, zanubrutinib)
  • Rituximab-based chemotherapy
  • Plasmapheresis for severe hyperviscosity
