Renal Artery Stenosis

Renal artery stenosis is narrowing of the arteries supplying the kidneys, leading to high blood pressure and kidney dysfunction. Causes include atherosclerosis (most common) and fibromuscular dysplasia.

  • Recurrent flash pulmonary edema
  • Abdominal bruit

Treatment

  • Medical management of BP and risk factors
  • Angioplasty/stenting in selected cases
  • Surgery rarely needed
