Perianal Abscess
A perianal abscess is a collection of pus near the anus, usually from infection of anal glands. It typically requires surgical drainage and may develop into a fistula.

Symptoms
- Severe pain near the anus, worse with sitting or bowel movements
- Swelling and redness
- Drainage of pus
- Fever
- Constipation from pain
Treatment
- Surgical incision and drainage (essential — antibiotics alone are not sufficient)
- Antibiotics in selected cases (especially with cellulitis, diabetes, or immunosuppression)
- Sitz baths after drainage
- Stool softeners
- Pain control
- Monitor for fistula development

See a doctor or go to the emergency department for any painful anal mass, especially with fever. Untreated abscesses can spread to deeper tissues.
