Pediculosis (Lice)

Pediculosis is infestation with lice — small parasitic insects that feed on blood. Head lice are most common in school children; body and pubic lice have different epidemiology.

  • Head lice — scalp; common in children

Treatment

  • Permethrin or pyrethrin shampoo
  • Spinosad or ivermectin lotion for resistant cases
  • Nit combing
  • Wash bedding and clothes in hot water
  • Treat close contacts
