Keloid

Keloids are thick, raised scars that grow beyond the boundaries of the original wound. They are more common in people with darker skin and tend to recur after treatment.

  • Surgical excision (with adjunct treatment to prevent recurrence)

Prevention

  • Avoid elective piercings, tattoos in keloid-prone individuals
  • Treat acne and skin injuries promptly
  • Use silicone sheets/gels on new scars
  • Avoid stretching wounds during healing
