Alcohol Poisoning
Alcohol poisoning is a severe and potentially fatal consequence of consuming a large amount of alcohol in a short time. It depresses breathing and protective reflexes and can be lethal without intervention.

Call 911 Immediately
Signs of alcohol poisoning:
- Confusion or unresponsiveness
- Vomiting while unable to wake up
- Seizures
- Slow or irregular breathing (fewer than 8 per minute)
- Pale or bluish skin
- Hypothermia
Do not let the person 'sleep it off'. Place them on their side to prevent choking. Call 911.
Hospital Treatment
- Airway protection
- IV fluids and glucose
- Thiamine
- Monitoring for low blood sugar, electrolytes
- Treatment of associated injuries or co-ingestions
